goodbye denim and splendor.

the smoke that curled around your mouth

took the shape of

a crooked knife

and i knew

that i could not contain you.

her hand on your knee,

you looked at me.

i looked back. shook my

head.

little girls, kid. little girls.

i looked to

my left. he stared.

his girlfriend wasn't there.

i looked to my right.

he called me beautiful

and asked for a kiss.

i did it quick

like a bandaid

and i looked to you.

her hand on your knee,

you looked back at me.

and i knew

that i could not contain you.

drunkenly

i kissed your neck

let you take off my shirt

i counted your freckles

and let my lipstick smear

on our mouths.

i moaned.

i wonder if she heard.

i was sorry.

because i knew

that i could not contain you.

goodbye denim and splendor.
